Skin is the largest organ of our body and the most exposed. It works as a barrier that protects us from external agents and as a filter the decides what’s good or bad for the body. It never stops producing new cells, which are regenerated continuously in the deepest skin layer and will move up to the surface to replace the old skin cells. As me are older this process is slower.
As time goes by skin becomes thinner and drier as a result of the breakdown of collagen fibers. It loses elasticity and becomes more fragile, especially if it has been exposed to too much sun. The complexion becomes dull and imperfections and other signs of aging such as wrinkles and spots appear.
This is why it’s necessary to take good care and protect the skin, helping avoid different disorders. A comprehensive care is essential for healthy skin; it’s not enough to cleanse it and moisturize daily, nutrition, rest and exercise are also key factors.
